What's moving. The Big Six all beat in the July 14–15 gauntlet — JPM posted the highest quarterly profit ever by a U.S. bank (market cap nearing $1T, per Qz), GS beat on trading and deals, WFC beat, BAC set trading records, and MS capped it with record revenue on the AI equity frenzy (Yahoo Finance, Reuters). Reaction was sell-the-news at the top: JPM fell ~2% on record numbers (GuruFocus via Yahoo), while BAC rose ~2% and remains best-in-group at +8% YTD, outpacing JPM and WFC (Reuters).

Variant perception. The desk sees the beats as almost entirely market-linked — trading, deal fees, AI-driven equity volumes — so the residual of a beta-hedged bank basket (long JPM/BAC/WFC/C/GS/MS vs. SH) is now positively loaded on the very market exposure the hedge cancels.
